Security Stewarding Event

Silverstone British Grand Prix 2025

Overview:

During the recent British Grand Prix that took place at Silverstone circuit, Security and Stewarding staff from the Areion Security Services team embarked on a long weekend keeping the public safe, remaining calm and collected if any issues were to arise, that anything and everything was dealt in a timely manner and ensuring that the whole event ran smoothly. Overall, the staff had positive things to say about their time at Silverstone, down to their sleeping arrangements, food consumption, how they felt towards their supervisor and whether they were supported and most importantly, how they enjoyed themselves during the British GP 2025. The staff were offered to supply feedback on how their 4 days went.

On Sunday morning I travelled down to Silverstone ready to take on the busy day ahead. I watched as the staff came into the welfare cabin early in the morning before their shift to collect a breakfast voucher provided by Silverstone where they could take a short walk to the lunch hall for a warm cooked breakfast. After this, they made their way back to the welfare cabin to collect a lunch bag where there were a variety of choices from ham, cheese, salad, and gluten free sandwiches, catering for a wide variety of dietary needs, alongside a variety of other snacks such as fruit, crisps, chocolate bars and popcorn as well as cans of water, tea and coffee.

The Event:

The feedback supplied from the staff about the overall organisation of the event was positive. They said the event was organised well, believing that if any issues were to arise, they would be able to deal with it quickly and smoothly. They stated that they were provided with more than enough information to ensure they were able to assist members of the public efficiently and had a thorough understanding of their job role, knowing if they had any questions or were not confident in providing the correct information, they knew who to turn to for assistance. The staff facilities provided had great feedback, many staff speaking on the showers and toilet facilities being cleaned every hour. At one point during their stay, they faced an issue with the showers not working, however the staff at Silverstone had this fixed within the hour. Some of the team, if close enough were able to take the opportunity to travel inside to the track to have a look around at what Silverstone can offer during the Grand Prix.

Sleeping Arrangements:

All staff members stayed on the staff camp site, where they had positive things to say. Some staff members did not have their own sleeping bags or tents, they had kindly been provided them by their supervisor which was greatly appreciated, those who were given camping equipment said this shows that their supervisor cared. For some it was their first time camping and said to be an enjoyable first experience. They were able to get a sufficient amount of sleep after a long shift making them ready for their shift the next day. The camp overall was kept clean and tidy, and all feedback was positive.

Team Morale:

The logistics team had a major part in team morale; they collected the lunches at the start of the day and prepared the welfare cabin before the stewards and security made their way over ensuing a smooth pickup of lunches. Throughout the day, the logistics team filled in for breaks, if certain areas became too busy, they were there to step in, they delivered food and water to those on positions and were there when the supervisors needed them. They kept the welfare cabin clean and tidy, so the staff were able to access it throughout the day if needed. All staff worked together as a team to allow the weekend to run smoothly, keeping smiles on their faces no matter the time of day or the weather. Some staff members made comments about how they had made friends during their weekend at Silverstone, and it will be a moment to remember for them.

Supervisory Support:

Early in the morning I watched as the supervisors waited for their staff before walking them down to their positions where they ran through what the day ahead tasks were, making sure that no staff member was left in the dark, providing clear guidance on what their job entailed.

The supervisors were praised by all their staff with outstanding feedback. They consistently highlighted that their supervisors “care”. The team felt that they were supported the whole way through, any questions they had or any time they felt they were not 100% confident their supervisors was there offering support.

Staff highlighted their supervisor’s professionalism and how approachable they were if they felt they needed anything. Some quotes throughout the day when staff were asked about their supervisors were:

  • “They provided masks for us as the grounds can become very dusty due to the cars moving around”
  • “My supervisor regularly checked in with me, providing me with water, asking if I needed anything to eat”
  • “At one point, traffic became super busy, my supervisor was right by my side helping me to direct traffic allowing the public to get where they needed to go safely and on time”
  • “My supervisor is really approachable; they checked up on me multiple times throughout the day covering me for breaks”

Overall:

Staff members did not have a bad word to say about their supervisors, they expressed their gratitude towards them, with consistent comments on how they were provided more than enough breaks, they carried water around ensuring no one was without and well looked after, how kind their supervisor is and how they were able to have a laugh as well as stay professional. They noted that their supervisors did not give out jobs and disappear for the day, they were there working alongside them and showing that they are a team.

The weekend went well, and it is clear to see that the staff had nothing but good things to say about their supervisors and the event itself, although it was a long tiring four days, everyone had fun, and for many it was a brand-new experience.
